| December is always a busy time of the year, whether
you're having out-of-towners come and visit or you're going out of town
yourself. San Luis Obispo County has a wonderful, warm Holiday spirit
-- not to mention sunny California weather, throughout the month of December.
Here's a quick snapshot of what's going on in our neighborhood:
The Arts
On December 11 and 12, there will be two showings on each day of the Nutcracker,
a Holiday tradition for many concert-goers. This event will be held in
the beautiful Harmon Hall of the San
Luis Obispo Performing Arts Center and is being performed by the Civic
Ballet. This is the 27th season of the Nutcracker in San Luis Obispo.
The Holiday concert series continues on December 16, with a Holiday Choir
Concert, also held at the PAC, and featuring the choirs from both Morro
Bay and SLO High Schools and the Los Osos Middle School.

If you would rather hear live music in an intimate setting, you can head
up north to Cambria.
There, the Hamlet Restaurant, which features the best in live jazz on
the Central Coast, will be hosting jazz harmonica virtuoso Ron Kalina
on December 26. He will be performing with local rhythm section all-stars
Luther Hughes on bass and Paul Kreibich on drums.
Activities
This being the Holiday season, there are tons of fun things to do with
your entire family. One of the most popular seasonal events is the placement
of Santa's House and carousel at Mission
Plaza in Downtown SLO. Parents can bring their children out to meet
Santa and ride on the historic carousel. While you're downtown, be sure
to visit local merchants for Winter Holiday decorations in their windows
and inside their store. You can view a list of all VirtualSLO.com shops
by clicking here.
In Morro
Bay, be sure to check out the Lighted Boat Parade which runs on December
4 from 6:30-8:30pm. Park near the Morro Bay Harbor and watch as a parade
of local boats quietly drift by, their decks and masts decorated from
top to bottom in a dazzling display of lights. With the backdrop of Morro
Rock and the reflection of the water, this is a spectacular once a
year event that you should definitely check out.
There are also Christmas Street Fairs this year, hosted at several Central
Coast locations including Atascadero,
Cayucos,
Morro
Bay, Cambria
and Arroyo
Grande. These fairs usually celebrate local merchants and, at some
location, snow is even brought in to create a winter wonderland on the
coastal streets. Check VirtualSLO.com's list of downtown
tours for to find out more about our local communities.
On December 11, the annual Vine Street Victorian Showcase is your chance
to see the historic and beautiful homes that line Vine Street in Paso
Robles get into the Holiday spirit. Dazzling night displays will awe your
entire family.
Great Time to Visit
San Luis Obispo County sees most of its tourists during the summer months,
which means that this is a great time to save on local hotels, airfare
and vacation packages. Visit the travel
