Dating all the way back to the late 1800s, the San Luis Obispo station is a major stop for freight and passenger service to points north and south. Passengers traveling to Seattle or Los Angeles can board Amtrak?s Coast Starlight here daily, as well as the Pacific Surfliner with faster service to Los Angeles. In addition, the historic railroad square offers fine restaurants, artwork and walking/bicycle paths.
Since the days of the Southern Pacific and Pacific Coast Railway, San Luis Obispo has been a busy rail center. Today dozens of daily freight trains pass through the city bringing with them goods to points north and south. The San Luis Obispo yard remains a rest spot for locomotives before the steep climb over the Cuesta Grade. |
